Teresa Alexandra Veríssimo Amaro Ferreira
Nurse Specialist in Rehabilitation Nursing, with 35 years of professional experience in hospital settings. She currently holds a management position in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Inpatient Unit at Unidade Local de Saúde de Santa Maria – Hospital de Santa Maria.
Throughout her professional career, she has developed specialised expertise in plastic and reconstructive surgery, combining extensive clinical experience with team management, in-service education, and the promotion of quality, patient safety, and the humanisation of nursing care.
She holds an Advanced Competence Certification, recognised by the Portuguese Nursing Association (Ordem dos Enfermeiros), in Tissue Viability and Wound Care Nursing and in Management, as well as postgraduate qualifications in Advanced Care of Wounds, Ostomies and Incontinence and in Healthcare Services Management and Leadership. She also holds a Specialisation in Health Communication, undertaken as part of a Master’s programme in Health Communication.
Her professional activity focuses particularly on the prevention, assessment, and treatment of complex wounds associated with plastic and reconstructive surgery, adopting an evidence-based approach and a strong commitment to continuous quality improvement in nursing care. She is a member of the Surgical Wound Working Group of the Portuguese Association for Wound Care (Associação Portuguesa de Tratamento de Feridas – APTFeridas).
She has participated as a speaker in educational and scientific initiatives addressing surgical wounds, complex wounds, and nursing care in plastic and reconstructive surgery, with a particular focus on fostering the integration of scientific evidence, clinical expertise, and humanised care.
